What
is the Gospel?
The word Gospel just means Good News, and that’s
what we preach! The bible tells us that “Christ
died for our sins according to the scriptures”,
that “he was buried and that he rose again on
the third day according to the scriptures" (I Corinthians
15:3,4).
In order to come into the good of this great gift of
God, the bible tells us that there must be a personal
experience of discovering our guiltiness before God
as sinners and accepting Christ as personal Savior and
Lord. This is accomplished only by genuine personal
faith in what Christ has accomplished for us, and trusting
that God is, as he has said, satisfied with that work.
Why do I need to be saved?
In our natural state, the bible tells us in John 3:18,
that every one of us is “condemned already”
because of our sinful nature. As we charge through life
without God, we try to be the masters of our own universe,
making our own plans and living our lives by our own
standards of right and wrong – this strategy fails
us, as we continually find ourselves at odds with God,
unable to attain any lasting peace or satisfaction of
ourselves.
Since we are so hopelessly sinful and lost, and because
God is perfect and holy, there is a need for us to be
reconciled with God before we can ever experience true
peace and satisfaction. Thankfully, in his incredible
mercy and grace, God has provided a way for us to be
brought back to him – he has provided a way for
our sin to be forgiven, and for us to be justified,
or made right, so we can experience “peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. (Romans
5:1)
How?
How can I be made right with God?
This is the most important question that a man or woman
could ever ask! It is the question that will define
the rest of their life, and make all the difference
in relation to eternity!
God’s plan to make sinners right with him can
be summarized by one single verse of scripture! John
3:16 (ESV) says “For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in
him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Isn’t that amazing! That
tells me that God loved me so much, that he was willing
to punish his only Son, who was totally sinless, for
all of my awful sins! Accepting that wonderful fact
is all that we need to do to be saved for all of eternity!
Once a man or woman recognizes their own personal sin
and their need for salvation and realizes that God has
provided for their salvation through the Lord Jesus
Christ, all they need to do is accept that, and believe
what God says in Romans 10:9, that “if thou
shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from
the dead, thou shall be saved.”
Salvation is simply a process of realizing and repenting
of our sin, and believing that Christ died to pay the
penalty for my sin!
It
seems too easy! How can I know for sure that I’m
saved?
Often we say that salvation isn’t a “feeling”
that sweeps over you, but I have to say, knowing for
sure that my sins are forgiven is the greatest feeling
in the world! I know without a shadow
of a doubt, that I’ll be in heaven for all eternity,
with a Savior who died for me!
It’s Christ’s blood and resurrection that
assures us of everlasting life when we call on Him as
our Savior. His blood made the payment for our sin,
and when God raised him from the dead on the third day,
it showed God’s acceptance of his payment as all
that was necessary! If a holy and righteous
God is satisfied, I am too!
The bible tells is in 1 John 5:12-13 the "He
that has the Son, has life; but he that has not the
Son of God, has no life. These things have I written...that
ye might know that you have eternal life!"
